One minute, Ryker was doing what a typical one-year-old, high-energy Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher mix does… and the next, his world changed.

While trying to jump the fence at his foster home today, Ryker landed on his hind leg the wrong way. The X-ray tells the heartbreaking story — Ryker has a badly broken leg. 💔

He now needs surgery, scheduled for Friday at Heart of Dakota Veterinary Clinic in Tappen, ND.
The estimated cost of his surgery and medical care is $2,700–$2,800. And that's just the beginning of his recovery.

Ryker will need approximately 8–10 weeks of restricted activity, with minimal movement and leashed bathroom breaks while his leg heals. His foster family will have the important job of helping this energetic little guy understand that he needs to REST! 🐾❤️‍🩹

This was an unexpected accident, and an unexpected expense for Prairie Paws Rescue.
If you can help Ryker get back on all four paws, we would be incredibly grateful. 💜

Whether it's $5, $25, $50 or whatever you can spare, every donation adds up and helps us provide the medical care our rescued pets need.

🙏 Please keep Ryker in your thoughts and prayers as he heads into surgery Friday.
Ryker didn't ask for this broken leg… but together, we can help him heal. 🐾💜

Prairie Paws Rescue would like to thank the community and those that donated the items during the Menards Pet Donation Drive!

Prairie Paws does not receive any city, state or national funding to keep our rescue functioning to help animals in need. We rely on donated items that are distributed to the foster homes that care for the animals until they are adopted.

Our volunteers, board of directors, and foster pets would like to thank Menards for hosting this event.

Here's another way you can help the adoptable pets at Prairie Paws: Sponsor a foster pup!

A $100 sponsorship will help an adoptable pup with medical expenses and helping them find their forever homes. The donation can be in memory of a loved one or a loved pet, in honor of someone or a pet, or even the name of a business.

To make a sponsorship donation, contact (701) 269-2803 for more info.
